One of the many things that I love (and now miss) about EVE Online is the simply amazing trailers that are released upon the release of a new expansion. Earlier today, CCP posted the newest trailer on the EVE site and it goes a little something like this.

720p Version and 1080p version

CCP, I love you, your trailers and everything but why did you have to release an amazing new trailer the day after I had to cancel my account?!

I know what you’re thinking, I never said I’d stop posting about EVE. 😉

It seems that a hell of a lot has been happening in the world of EVE Online while I was out today. Over the last 12 hours, there has been over fifty news articles posted to the downtime news page. There are just so many events (and possibly more coming), there’s no way I can link to and talk about them all individually. So below is a timeline of sorts of the many events with the newest story at the top. I’ll keep an eye on the downtime news page and update the timeline as news events are posted.

  • 9:07 EGT (EVE Game Time) – BREAKING NEWS: Minmatar-Thukker Fleet Reappears in Yulai – Stargates Shut Down
Mysterious Minmatar-Thukker armada re-appears, seems to be at least twice as big as before. CONCORD shuts down all gates leading into Yulai
  • 9:38 EGT – Eyewitness reports from inside Yulai
Reports are filtering in to various news networks from eyewitnesses on the scene, who are now trapped inside the system of Yulai.
  • 10:08 EGT – Mass panic in Yulai
Mass Panic has taken hold in Yulai and waves of civilian ships have been spotted leaving stations in a bid to escape Yulai, ignoring CONCORD intructions to stay clear of the locked down stargates.
Dozens of Dreadnaughts from the Minmatar-Thukker fleet open fire on the CONCORD Bureau Station while smaller escort warships open fire on CONCORD vessels. Eye witnesses report massive casualties on both sides before transmissions are jammed.
  • 10:58 EGT – First images of battle in Yulai
Scope News manages to wire a compressed packet from Yulai through an independent local transmitter. Images are distorted but explosions can be seen ripping through the CONCORD Station. CONCORD reinforcements arrive at the fight with every passing minute.
  • 11:10 EGT – Major CONCORD network outage reported; Yulai connections reopen
CONCORD’s cluster-wide data network suffers a severe and unprecedented outage. Communications to Yulai re-established. Small engagements break out in the system between civilian ships and local law enforcement but CONCORD assistance is nowhere to be seen.
  • 11:15 EGT – Servant Sisters of Eve urge calm
Sister Elaya Selnaarei urges the the cluster not to panic amidst the pandemonium in Yulai.
Scope News confirms that the CONCORD Bureau Station has been destroyed and that all rapid defence capabilities of the police agency have been disabled.
  • 11:45 EGT – Scope data recorder salvaged, images recovered
An independant pilot finds the wreckage of Scope’s on-site media shuttle and salvages the data recorder. Images are found that show the horrific battle between CONCORD and the Minmatar-Thukker fleet unfolding.
  • 11:50 EGT – Markets crash across the cluster
SCC-run markets in stations across the cluster come to a grinding halt following the destruction of CONCORD Headquarters.
  • 11:53 EGT – Trade hub turning into a warzone
With CONCORD out of commission the Jita is struck hard by pirates trying to take advantage of the lack of defence for all traders now leaving the biggest trade hub in EVE.
  • 12:01 EGT – Majority of CONCORD Assembly delegates accounted for
After a frantic search of the Yulai system following the sudden and devastating assault from the combined Minmatar-Thukker fleet, multiple evacuation shuttles are secured by search and rescue teams.
  • 12:17 EGT – REPORT: Minmatar-Thukker Armada Invades Ammatar Mandate
Minmatar-Thukker warships engage and destroy several Ammatar Fleet patrols in Jarizza, a system in the Derelik Region. The unprovoked attack appears to have completely caught the Ammatar Fleet by surprise.

CCP need to stop coming out with amazing teaser trailers like this one, otherwise I can see myself becoming a hardcore EVE player. The kind that spends every waking hour playing EVE and dreaming about playing it when asleep. Actually, on second thoughts, they need to bring out more. That’d be an awesome way to spend my days. Although I could see myself getting to the stage where I wouldn’t want to (or couldn’t) move from my computer.

Having a Gallente Mothership colliding with a Caldari station was pretty unexpected. If anyone I would have thought it’d be an Amarr or Minmatar capital ship, not a Gallente one. The Gallente are mostly portrayed as a peaceful and freedom-loving society but I guess there would be some bad apples. And there was the whole Gallente Caldari war that they were kind of winning. Okay, so maybe they do have a destructive side but still…
Unless it was hijacked by a Caldari or Amarr infiltrator, someone trying to start a war that everyone else seemed reluctant to start. Oooh, conspiracy!

Fly Safe.

I signed in to EVE today for the first time in a couple weeks. I mainly signed in to download the newest patch and change a skill. But it’s strange, I feel kind of excited about playing EVE; almost like I did when I first started playing. I’m hoping this excitement will only intensify once CCP release Trinity.

So, I’m sitting here with the Market open, searching for the Gallente Drone Specialization skill so I can use Ogre II drones instead of Ogre I’s. The skill plan as a whole is quite a long one. I’m about a third of the way through at the moment in terms of training time. All I’ve got left to train is the Gallente Drone Specialization skill which won’t take too long to begin with, but once I get onto training from level 4 to level 5 it’ll take roughly 39 days to complete. Here’s a look at my current skill plan.

Skill plan for Godlesswanderer

1. Gallente Drone Specialization I (1 hour, 6 minutes, 50 seconds)
2. Gallente Drone Specialization II (5 hours, 11 minutes, 20 seconds)
3. Gallente Drone Specialization III (1 day, 5 hours, 20 minutes, 51 seconds)
4. Gallente Drone Specialization IV (6 days, 22 hours, 1 minute, 13 seconds)
5. Gallente Drone Specialization V (39 days, 3 hours, 8 minutes, 55 seconds)

Total time: 47 days, 12 hours, 49 minutes, 11 seconds
Cost: 9,000,000 ISK

N.B. Skill costs are based on CCP’s database and are indicative only

On a side note, in-case you were wondering why I haven’t posted many EVE related entries lately, my corporation seems to have been hit by a bout of severe inactivity. We seem to have gone from a corporation with everyone being online every night to a corporation with next to no one online but me (day or night). Hopefully this won’t last very long and we will be up and running again soon. But, if this does keep up I may have to end up trying to find another corporation to fly with. I haven’t thought about what kind of corporation yet but preferably in the PvP area, although the miner in me is aching to get out and mine some ‘roids.

Update – 21/11/07
It seems that I don’t need the Gallente Drone Specialization skill trained to level 5 to be able to use Ogre II drones. Although, with that said, it’ll be a good skill to have as it increases the damage of Gallente drones by 2%; and that little bit of extra damage would be helpful.
